The Way of Compassion
The Passion of Jesus According to Luke

More than any other Gospel, Luke emphasizes the compassionate nature of Jesus.
The compassion of Jesus expresses itself beyond the limits of empathy or legitimate boundary.
Jesus is passionate about the plight, suffering, and rejection of others without regard to national boundary or self-preservation.

Our weekend retreat will explore this compassion of Jesus in the context of the Passion Narrative (Luke 22-23)
as we reconsider the “meaning” of his death on the Cross.  Simply, Jesus dies in the manner of his living.

In the context of prayer, reflection, and study, we will consider seven aspects of the Passion of Jesus according to Luke:

1.   The relationship between “eating” and the Passion
(Manger, Lord’s Supper, Emmaus, And the Epistle to the Galatians)
2.   The Compassionate Beatitude of Luke 6: 32-36 as the perspective of Luke 7
(Centurion, Widow, and public insult)
3.   Luke 15 – The Pathos of God
4.   The Passion Narrative according to Luke
5.   The Angel of Comfort – Luke 22: 43-44
6.   Workshop on the doctrine of Atonement
(The contemporary debates concerning the meaning of the death of Jesus)
7.   Luke’s portrayal of the Death of Jesus – Luke 23: 32-49
